What is it?

The Battle for Manhattan is an athletic competition between the East Side and West Side of New York City. The event will consist of a series of sports and recreational activities that promote the goodwill and spirit of New York City and celebrate its different communities. The entire event will enjoy opening and closing ceremonies with celebrities and local leaders.

The Battle will feature four different sports:

divisions: male & female

All games are '5 on 5' using modified NCAA Rules and are played on Full Size gyms with 2 referees and a scorekeeper. Two 25 minute halves, stopped time the last minute of the 1st half and the last 2 minutes of the 2nd half. Teams will consist of 8-10 players per team. Each team will be playing in a single elimination tournament within their age bracket (Up to four games). Each game won by a team is worth 100 points towards their sides’ point total.*Rules are subject to change.

divisions: male & female

All games are indoor '5 on 5', including the goalie, using modified Official Futsal Rules. Each game is comprised of two 25 minute halves with running time. Lines and walls are out of bounds and then there is a kick in after each out of bounds. The games are played with a size #4 Futsal Ball on indoor, full size basketball courts. Teams will consist of 8-10 players per team. Each team will be playing in a single elimination tournament within their age bracket (Up to four games). Each game won by a team is worth 100 points towards their sides' point total.*Rules are subject to change.

divisions: male,  female & co-ed

All games are '6 on 6' using modified NCAA Co-Ed Rules. In the Co-Ed division Two women must be on the court at all time. Teams will consist of 8-10 players per team. Each team will be playing in a single elimination tournament within their age bracket (Up to four games). Each match won by a team is worth 100 points towards their sides' point total. Each match will consist of two-out-of-three 15-point games, with a 21-point maximum.*Rules are subject to change.

The run begins at 10:00am on Sunday, March 30. Registration, starting line and finish line will be at Pier 46 (Hudson River Park) which is located at the corner of West Street and Charles Street.*Rules are subject to change.

Each sport is split into four age groups: 21-29, 30-39, 40-49, and 50+

Which side am I on?

You must live or work in Manhattan to participate in this event.
Your home address takes precedent over your work address.

why should i play?

The Battle for Manhattan was created to give New Yorkers an opportunity to play sports and promote healthy rivalry, all while helping the community. The event is raising funds and awareness for Urban Dove and its support for local NYC Public Schools.

Your participation will not only directly aid Urban Dove and other local charities, but together we will increase goodwill around the city's neighborhoods and create an annual event that is accessible to everybody. Besides, you get a free t-shirt!
