REGISTRATION:
Registration is still open and will extend past the deadline. Have
your friends and family join to play on your team (or against you to get the competitive juices flowing). Remember if you want to play with people in a team, simply have them register and include the names of the people who they want to play with in the comment box of the registration page.
PRACTICES:
Practices will start to be held the first week of April for all three sporting events. Exact times to soon be announced. Also, Crunch Gyms will be offering free weekly passes to “Get Battle Ready” for all registrants who want!
T-SHIRTS:
You will be able to pick up your Battle for Manhattan t-shirts at your local Crunch Gym starting the week of March 24th. More details on exact locations to come.
GAME RULES:
Basketball
All games are ‘5 on 5′ using modified NCAA Rules and are played on Full Size gyms with 2 referees and a scorekeeper. Two 25 minute halves, stopped time the last minute of the 1st half and the last 2 minutes of the 2nd half. Teams will consist of 8-10 players per team. Each team will be playing in a single elimination tournament within their age bracket (Up to four games). Each game won by a team is worth 100 points towards their sides’ point total.
Soccer
All games are indoor ‘5 on 5′, including the goalie, using modified Official Futsal Rules. Each game is comprised of two 25 minute halves with running time. Lines and walls are out of bounds and then there is a kick in after each out of bounds. The games are played with a size #4 Futsal Ball on indoor, full size basketball courts. Teams will consist of 8-10 players per team. Each team will be playing in a single elimination tournament within their age bracket (Up to four games). Each game won by a team is worth 100 points towards their sides’ point total.
Volleyball
All games are ‘6 on 6′ using modified NCAA Co-Ed Rules. In the Co-Ed division Two women must be on the court at all time. Teams will consist of 8-10 players per team. Each team will be playing in a single elimination tournament within their age bracket (Up to four games). Each match won by a team is worth 100 points towards their sides’ point total. Each match will consist of two-out-of-three 15-point games, with a 21-point maximum.
5K Run
The run begins at 10:00am on Sunday, March 30. Registration, starting line and finish line will be at Pier 46 (Hudson River Park) which is located at the corner of West Street and Charles Street.
On Tuesday, February 5th The Battle For Manhattan held a press conference at the Manhattan Center to official announce the recreational sports event to the NYC media. Jackie “The Jokeman” Marlin acted as the MC and ensured that everybody in the room was laughing. Professional athlete captains John Starks, Kevin Young, Eric Wynalda, Troy “Escalade” Jackson and Daine Blanton were all at the podium.
The Battle for Manhattan is organized by Sportsvite, the Corporate Athletic League and Steve Bernstein who is President of Zenbu Media. Part of the proceeds from the event go to the Urban Dove Foundation.
